History The first meal was served on Thanksgiving Day 1983.
The idea of the Soup Kitchen began with the vision of Martha Royan, a Homestead
resident from 1976 to 1985.
With help from the Homestead Junior Womans Club, church groups and interested individuals, the Soup Kitchen became a reality. The first location was the American Legion Hall, 517 S. Krome Avenue. For a period of time it operated from the First Presbyterian Church, 12 NW 16th Street. With the help of Joe Mitchell, manager of the Farmers Market and Bill Losner, President of 1st National Bank of Homestead, the current facilities were purchased.
