The Homestead Soup Kitchen served its first meal on Thanksgiving Day 1983, founded on Martha Royan’s vision of feeding those in need. Beginning at the American Legion Hall on S. Krome Avenue, then moving to First Presbyterian Church, the kitchen eventually found its permanent home with community support. As a 501(c)3 nonprofit, we provide hot meals to elderly individuals, the unemployed, those experiencing poverty, migrants, and anyone facing homelessness — no questions asked. In 2024 alone, we served over 48,000 meals to residents of the greater Homestead and Florida City area, with more than 600,000 meals served since our founding.
Homestead Soup Kitchen is a 501(c)3 nonprofit. All donations are tax-deductible. We welcome monetary gifts, in-kind donations of food and supplies, and volunteers from the community.
We need approximately $7,000 each month to keep our doors open.
